On Tuesday, August 13, the Lady Tigers hosted the Johnson County Trojans and came roaring back to win the game despite trailing by a score of 9-3 going to the bottom of the fifth inning. Johnson County came out swinging and took an early 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, Swainsboro was able to capitalize on a couple Johnson County errors and scored three runs to get back into the game. Swainsboro then gave those three runs back to Johnson County in the top of the fifth inning as the Trojans stretched the lead to six.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Tigers loaded the bases on the strength of a walk, an error, and a hit batter. At that point, the Lady Tigers’ bats came to life as five of the next seven batters collected a hit on the way to a nine-run inning to take a 12-9 lead. The Lady Tigers scored one more run in the sixth to secure the 13-9 comeback win. Leading hitters for the Lady Tigers were Gracie Beneteau (2-4, 3 RBI), Sara Smith (2-5, 3 RBI) and Chloe Boulineau (3-3, 2 RBI). Boulineau also came in to pitch the final five innings of the game and pick up the win.

In the last two games, however, the Lady Tiger’s bats went cold. On Thursday, August 15, Swainsboro welcomed an undefeated Toombs County team to Tiger Field for their first region match-up of the season. Toombs County pitcher Casey Cantwell and Swainsboro pitcher Chloe Boulineau each pitched a complete game with the two combining for 20 strikeouts in the game. Boulineau came out with the upper hand in the strikeout battle, 11 to 9, but Cantwell and the Lady Dogs came out of the game with the win. In seven innings, Boulineau allowed seven runs (3 earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out 11. The Lady Tiger offense was led by left fielder Gracie Beneteau (3-4), third baseman Kyleigh Hostilo (1-3, RBI), and catcher Cassidy Jordan (1-2, HBP). The difference in the game was defense. The young Lady Tiger defense committed three costly errors which led to four unearned runs in the 7-1 loss.

On Monday evening, August 19, the Lady Tigers hosted the Statesboro Blue Devils. Again, Swainsboro got pretty solid pitching but failed to put runs on the board. Kayla Crabb and Chloe Boulineau combined to allow six runs (3 earned) over seven innings of work. They allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. The Lady Tiger offense managed just five hits on the night and lost by a final score of 6-1. Gracie Beneteau led the Lady Tigers going 2-3 on the evening. Izzy Baird, Chloe Boulineau and Ariel Tapley also chipped in with a hit.

The Lady Tigers look to bounce back and get the bats going with another busy week of games. Tuesday evening, August 20, they traveled to Ambuc Park in Savannah to face St. Vincent’s Academy and then returned home for a Thursday night match-up against Vidalia. Monday, August 26, they traveled to Treutlen County for a game at their new softball field located at Treutlen County High school located on GA Hwy. 29 just outside of Soperton.
