Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. James Ebb “Jim” Daughtry, age 79, of Swainsboro, on December 21, 2023, at Augusta University Hospital in Augus-ta. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 26, at 2 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Swainsboro with Father Steve Larson officiating. Burial followed in the Stillmore City Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Durden- Hudson Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers were Daniel Smith, Matt Edwards, Steven Edwards, Drew Roberts, Matt Roberts and Bert Stewart. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club.

Born in Metter, Mr. Daughtry was the son of Robert Ebb and Quebec Edenfield Daughtry. He was a 1962 graduate of Emanuel County Institute and served in the National Guard. Jim worked with Stewart’s Jewelry and Smith’s Jewelers repairing and engraving jewelry and re-pairing watches. He often boasted that he had worked 60 Christmases. Jim was on Stillmore City Council and served as Stillmore Mayor for many years before moving to Swainsboro. He was active with Troop 75 Boy Scouts of America and accompanied two trecks to Philmont New Mexico Scout Reservation. Jim was a member of the First Methodist Church, Sons of the American Revolution and of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club. Joining The Swainsboro Kiwanis in 1993, Jim was awarded the Governor’s Leadership Medallion in 2016, The Ruby K in 2018 and also the Legion of Honor in 2018. Mr. Daughtry is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marjorie “Snooks” Hudson.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Bobbie Roberts Daughtry; sons, Brad Daughtry (Carla) of Stillmore and Mars Daughtry (Ana) of Soperton; two grandchildren, Amelia Daughtry and Oliver Daughtry; several nieces and nephews.
