The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday, November 6, at 9:15 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 38 in attendance. After the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag, Emory Fennell said the blessing and a prayer for the many shut-ins. The UDC fed them with breakfast casserole, muffins with grape and orange jelly, coffee, orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice and plenty of fellowship. Their newest veteran is Tyrone Lee Clark. Clark served in the U.S. Army during “Operation Desert Storm” and then at Fort Bragg, NC. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Clark’s highest rank was E-4. Genealogist Lillian Wingate, an employee of the Franklin Memorial Library, presented her program on “nick names” that would help in doing research for our ancestors. Chair Johnny then discussed the school locations and times for veterans programs this Thursday and Friday, and also the meal at Swainsboro High School. They will attend veteran’s programs as follows: Thursday, November 9, at Twin City Elementary School at 9 a.m. and Swainsboro Middle School at 1:30 p.m.; Friday, November 10, at Swainsboro Elementary School at 9 a.m., then eat lunch at Swainsboro High School at 12 – 1 p.m., then Emanuel County Institute at 1:30 p.m. Chair Johnny then discussed the Wreaths Across American project with putting out the U.S. Flags on veteran’s graves at 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, placing the Wreaths on Veterans graves at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, and picking up the wreaths at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 20.
