The Swainsboro Tigers baseball team improved to 4-2 on the young season by sweeping the annual Citizen’s Bank Diamond Day. Swainsboro had quite the day offensively, beating Screven County 17-7 and ECI 9-4. Swainsboro hosted Toombs County Tuesday before traveling to Morgan County on Thursday to play the #7 ranked team in AAAA.

DJ Stanford and Kason Edenfield handled the pitching duties for Swainsboro. However, it was the offense that carried the way Saturday morning, with Brandon Chapman hitting his third homerun on the season and three hits for the game. The Tigers took advantage of 10 walks and compounded Screven County’s penchant for giving away free bases with 9 stolen bags. Swainsboro put the game away with an eight run third inning to cruise to an easy win.

Against ECI, Brice Marchman and Peyton Mason covered seven innings for the Tigers, allowing only three earned runs for the Bulldogs. Swainsboro’s offense once again had its way, tallying 14 hits. Marchman was four for four with a double Lenox Lively and Shane Gamiza had multiple hits for the Tigers as they avenged an early season loss to ECI.

The two-game sweep was preceded by a Wednesday loss to Vidalia, 10-7. Peyton Mason pitched into the third inning for Swainsboro and held the Indians to three runs. Swainsboro led 3-1 early, behind a Stanford RBI single and a run scoring double by Marchman. Vidalia got their offense going with a big third inning to take the lead, 4-3. Gamiza drove in three runs for Swainsboro while Gabe Conley collected two hits in the loss.

Swainsboro has one more week to tune things up before kicking off region play in mid March.
