The U.S. Air Force Band of the West will take the stage at the East Georgia State College (EGSC) Gambrell Building Auditorium to kick off the College’s 2024 Vision Series on Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m.

For nearly 40 years, March has been officially designated as the time to celebrate music education and its role in building a world class educational system for our great nation. The USAF Band of the West is celebrating “Music in our Schools Month” with the Music in Our Schools Tour across the State of Georgia. The performance will feature concert band classics, colorful storytelling as well as a debut performance of a new work by Henry Jackman (Kong: Skull Island, X-Men: First Class, Captain Phillips). The USAF Band of the West will honor those who have served and are serving, inspire the next generation of Americans and connect with audiences throughout Georgia!

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the East Georgia State College Gambrell Building Auditorium at 131 College Circle, Swainsboro, Georgia, 30401. Although the event is free and open to the public, a ticket is required. For more information or to reserve your free ticket, visit www.ega.edu/vision-series. Those attendees not seated 15 minutes before the concert starts may forfeit their seats to the general public.

The USAF Band of the West, established in 1941, is a musical organization with an outstanding record of achievement. The Airmen assigned to the band are highly trained professional musicians who have dedicated themselves to serving their country through music. The band travels more than 125,000 miles annually and provides hundreds of performances to military and civilian audiences throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Puerto Rico.

The organization is made up of the large ensembles Concert Band, Ceremonial Marching Band, Dimensions in Blue, and three popular music groups, Warhawk, Top Flight, and Velocity. Small ensembles within the unit include Freedom Brass, Gateway Brass, Spectrum Winds, Nightwatch, Mission Winds, and protocol combos. This diversity enables the USAF Band of the West to perform practically any style of music from classical and country to marches and mambos.

The East Georgia State College Vision Series is an initiative that underwrites academic and cultural enrichment programs for East Georgia State College students and the surrounding community. Since its inception, the Vision Series has hosted outstanding personalities, authors, newsmakers, musical performances, dance companies, and theatrical productions. Past programs include President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, Dr. Maya Angelou, the Atlanta Pops, Chancellor Sonny Perdue, and Ambassador Andrew Young.
