Each year, Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society provides grant-in-aid awards to female students at East Georgia State College who plan to enter the field of education. Preference is given to sophomore students in the Beta Beta service area which includes Candler, Emanuel, Johnson, and Treutlen counties. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and submit an essay explaining why they majored in education and what they would like to accomplish as an educator. At its April meeting, Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma awarded its 2024 scholarship to Mattie Boulineau. Mattie is the daughter of Candi and Trent Boulineau.

A graduate of Swainsboro High School, the recipient was very active in several organizations including Beta Club, Future Farmers of America, and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Boulineau served as yearbook editor for two years. Additionally, she was active in several sports. Mattie was a member of the softball, soccer, and tennis team. While at East Georgia State College, Boulineau made the Dean’s List and is a member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries organization. This year’s scholarship recipient is very active in her church where she serves as a youth leader which entails a variety of jobs to support the youth ministry.

The Delta Kappa Gamma International, founded in Austin, Texas, May 11, 1929, is an educational, honor, and professional organization for women educators. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society provides members a lifelong association with other women educators engaged in the shared pursuit of common interests, goals and ideals. Delta Kappa Gamma members include classroom teachers, college and university professors, administrators and supervisors, librarians, educational specialists and preservice teachers. Beta Beta Chapter promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. One of the ways the chapter seeks to fulfill that mission is through the Grant-in-Aid program.
