After dedicating years to education, Johnny Parker and Sandra Swinney announced their plans to vacate their seats on the Emanuel County Board of Education.

Emanuel County Schools pays tribute to Mr. Johnny Parker and Ms. Sandra Swinney, who have dedicated a combined total of 88 years to education. Each will vacant his or her seat as of July 9, 2024, citing health issues and recent family losses as reasons for their decisions.

Mr. Parker expressed his gratitude to the citizens for the opportunity to serve as a voice for District 5. Mr.Parker said, “I have served with a number of board members, and I continue to put this group of individuals among the best. We have always put children first in our decision-making and have honored the role of being a board member. I have loved and cherished making Emanuel County a stronger community by doing what’s best for children. I am excited about the many great things that are happening in our schools across the district. Emanuel County’s future looks very bright!”

I have complete confidence that the board is moving in the right direction, and I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition for my successor. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated individuals. I wish the entire Emanuel County Board of Education continued success.”

In response to the announcement, Superintendent Warnock stated, “We are saddened by the news but respect their decision. We appreciate their years of service to Emanuel County Schools. Both Johnny Parker and Sandra Swinney have been valuable members of our Board of Education, contributing to its cohesion and effectiveness.”

A special election to determine the new members of the Board of Education will be held during the November 5, 2024, election. The qualifying date for candidates to run for these positions is Monday, August 19, through noon on Friday, August 23.
