Mildred Frances Usry Thompson, 91, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at The Harbor at Harmony Crossing Assisted Living Home in Eatonton. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Wrens Church of God with Rev. Jason Burton and Dr. Brett Mask officiating. Her son, Clarence Ashley Thompson Jr., officiated the interment ceremony at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera. The family received friends Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at Wrens Church of God.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Brett Mauldin, Tanner Mask, Jon Mathews, Jody Thompson, Graig Poppell, Stephen Graham, Julie Prescott and Dale Wright.

Mildred was born December 20,1932, in Bath, SC, to Jim C. Usry, Sr. and Rubie Hicks Usry. She was the oldest of five children. Mildred moved to Swainsboro as a child and met Clarence Ashley Thompson at the Swainsboro High School Jr./Sr. Prom. On October 17, 1952, they were married and spent most of Clarence’s 20-year Army career moving around to new places. She was a great cook and was especially known for her six-layer chocolate cakes. Mildred was also known for her love of entertaining guests in their home. Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carlton Usry (who died at three years of age) and Jim C. Usry, Jr.; and husband of almost 70 years, Clarence Ashley Thompson, Sr. (who died August 2, 2023).

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughters, Angela Mauldin (Larry) of Greensboro and Ofelia Bobo (Hiram) of Gibson; sons, Clay Thompson (Larry) of Hoschton and Clarence Ashley Thompson Jr. (Michelle) of Prattville AL; four grandchildren, Laray Mauldin Mask (Brett), Brett Mauldin (Candice), Clayton Thompson (Makaila) and Breanna Tsai (Frank); six great-grandchildren; brother, David Lamar Usry (Brenda) of Ellijay; sister, Eleanor U. Batchelor (Bennie) of Cochran; sister-in-law, Wilma Thompson of Social Circle; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A heartfelt thanks and appreciation are extended to Nate and Rene, Hospice Care Givers and special thanks to her fulltime caregiver Pamela McClin, who loved Mildred like a mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wrens Church of God.

James Funeral Home in Wrens was in charge of arrangements.
