On July 1, 2024, new Georgia law moved the permitting of public fireworks display to the control of local fire departments. Georgia State law overrides local laws and regulations and now requires that on July 3 and 4, ALL fireworks must stop at midnight. Fireworks cannot be used within the right of way of any public road, street, highway or railroad. They may not be used within 100 yards of hospitals, nursing homes, gasoline stations or storage areas. You must be at least 18 years of age and should also understand the explosive danger of power-ful fireworks that are now being sold to the public. Violations of the laws regarding fireworks can result in penalties of up to $2,500 for each and every act. If you choose to purchase and use consumer fireworks, remember to follow safety directives and be respectful of your neigh-bors and agricultural settings involving animals and pets.
