Susie G. Handberry, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024. A Celebration of Life was held Wednesday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church in Augusta with Rev. William B. Blount, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Garfield.

Susie was born August 21, 1947, I Millen, to Linzie and Ollie Mae Golff. She graduated from Burgess Landrum High School in 1965 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Swainsboro Tech. Susie married her high school sweetheart, the late Rev. E.L. “Leroy” Handberry on November 20, 1967, and God blessed them with two wonderful children. She had a fulfilling career as an educator for over three decades caring for those with special needs. Susie was known for her compassion, gentle touch and unwavering dedication to her students’ well-being. Her career was not just a profession, but a calling, and she touched the lives of many with her kindness and caring nature.

Mrs. Handberry will be deeply missed by her children, Edsell (Beverly) Handberry, Jr. and Kimberly Handberry Barker; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
