James Arthur Anderson’s new book Methods and Meaning in the Novels of Stephen King: A Constant Reader’s Guide, has just been released by McFarland Publishers. Anderson is considered one of the world’s leading experts on Stephen King and has published two previous books about the horror writer’s works.

While Anderson’s previous books have been aimed at scholars, Methods and Meaning in the Novels of Stephen King was written for a broader audience of students and fans of King’s works. This book provides an in-depth study of each of King’s 53 novels, and includes background details, summaries, narrative devices, themes, interesting facts and notable quotes.

“While many scholars dismiss Stephen King as just a horror writer, he is one of today’s leading literary talents,” Anderson says. “His stories reveal powerful themes that help readers better understand the human condition, themes such as addiction, the need for justice, and the dangers of government overreach, for example.”

Methods and Meaning in the Novels of Stephen King: A Constant Reader’s Guide is available directly from the publisher, or from Amazon, where it rose to number one status as a new release on the horror/fantasy criticism best-seller list.

Anderson has been writing professionally since 1979, when he sold his first short story. He is Professor Emeritus at Johnson & Wales University, where he taught literature and writing for 37 years before retiring. Anderson earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Rhode Island and has also published several novels of his own in the fantasy and horror field, including an Egyptian fantasy novel which will be released by Nightmare Press this fall. He is currently a part-time instructor at East Georgia State College. Anderson lives in Garfield with his wife, Lynn, a spoiled horse and a very spoiled dog.
