The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library, Monday morning, October 14, 2024, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 47 in attendance. Georgia State Representative Larry “Butch” Parrish fed the veterans with the help of Shari Watt who provided sausage biscuits, grits, fresh fruit, associated pastries, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After the prayer by Veteran Emory Fennell, Chair Johnny then introduced Representative Larry “Butch” Parrish to tell a little about what the State of Georgia is doing. Butch talked about what the State is doing for the people and counties affected by the Hurricane Helene. Thanks, Butch, for all you do for us. The newest veteran to attend the Veterans at the Library Monday morning breakfast is Veteran Fred Mozee. Fred served in the Georgia Army National Guard, Company D, 878th Combat Engineer Battalion Swainsboro, Georgia from from 1980 until 1992. He served at Fort Gordon, Fort Stewart, and deployed to the Country of Oman in the Spring of 1992. Fred’s highest rank achieved was E-5. Also, Veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction that will be held Thursday night, November 21, 2024, (because of Hurricane Helene), at 5 p.m. at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East, Twin City. Advance tickets are required and can be obtained by contacting Terry Reynolds at 478-494-3758, Richard Driggers at 912-290-1108, Nick Kraus at 912-687-6781 or Kurt Anderson at 678-614-0593. This event will include social time, prime rib meal, with silent and live auction items. All the proceeds go directly to the local Wounded Warriors group which is a Georgia Non-profit 501 C3 organization that gives opportunity to Wounded Veterans and their family to enjoy the great outdoors.
