The Swainsboro Middle School Jr. Beta recently competed at the state convention in Savannah. Sixty-seven members of the club, grades 6-8, attended and participated in a wide variety of academic, artistic, and team competitions. Students who placed in the top five are qualified to compete at the national level next summer in Orlando.

Songfest won 1st place. For Songfest, students perform a song and routine where a song’s lyrics are rewritten to incorporate the Beta theme and club pillars. The Beta theme was “Radiate.” Our Songfest group reinvented the Kool and the Gang song “Celebration” to showcase the theme.

Aubree Roberts won 1st place in Accessorized Design, Kaylee Screws won 1st place in Quilling and 2nd place in Onsite Painting, Leilany Lopez-Acosta earned 2nd place in 6th grade Spanish, Alice Lopez received 3rd place in 7th grade Spanish, Maddux Hendrix won 5th place in Woodworking, and Melina Ramos got 5th place in Fiber Arts. The 2D Design (banner) received 5th place, Engineering team of Sydney Lively, Stella Kate Marsh, Kaybreigh Hostilo, Rayleigh Hutcheson and Colt Sconyers earned 5th place, and Performing Arts dance soloist Jurnee Wynn received a “Golden Ticket” to be a premiere performer at the opening ceremony of the national convention.

SMS is very proud of the success of these amazing students! We hope that the community and local businesses will support our efforts in the coming months to raise money for our trip to Orlando. We want all students to have this wonderful opportunity!
