Event Planning Committee Commemoration Service for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held Sunday, January 19, at 6 p.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church. Speaker will be Rev. Karlton Howard, Pastor at Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church in Keysville and member of the Georgia House of Representatives District 129.

Karlton L. Howard is the son of the late Henry L Howard and Thelma Jones Howard of Augusta, Georgia. He was educated in the public school system of Augusta, Georgia graduating from the Lucy C. Laney High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from LaGrange College in LaGrange Georgia. He received his certificate in Theology from the Augusta extension of American Baptist Theological Seminary. Karlton furthered his studies at Columbia International University in Columbia South Carolina in the Masters of Divinity program. In November 1995 the Green Grove Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Reverend Lessel Leonard, licensed Karlton into the gospel-preaching ministry. He was ordained into the gospel ministry in January of 1997 and installed as pastor of the Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church in Keysville, Georgia in March 1997. He is in his twenty-sixth year of pastoring at the church affectionately known as “The Ark.” God has guided the church to grow spiritually and to relocate to a 10,000 square foot building on 13 acres in Keysville, Georgia.

After college Karlton worked as a procurement specialist for the CSRA Business League in Augusta. Prior to being called into the ministry Karlton played a vital role in the Howard’s family business operations that included Howard’s Upholstery, Uniformals Unlimited (Perfect Fit), and Uph’ward Promotions.

Karlton L. Howard has been affiliated with many religious, civic, and social organizations. He has served on the Advisory Board for Senior Citizens Council on Aging; he served on the Board of Directors for Burke County Partnership/Communities in Schools; he served on the Augusta Aviation Commission having held the positions of Chairman and Co-Chairman; at Green Grove he held the position of Director of Christian Education, served as Chairman of Deacons ministry, Revival Coordinator, and Men’s Sunday school teacher. Karlton is the past moderator of Noah Ebenezer Central Baptist Association; he is a member of the Augusta Baptist Ministers Conference having served as treasurer; he has served as Vice President for the Tenth District Congress on Christian Education. Karlton presently serves as president of the Tenth District Convention of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia. He is also a member of the Hampton’s Ministers Conference. Karlton is instructor for the Augusta Theological Seminary having as an extension classes are held at Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church.

He is the executive producer/host of “The Parade of Quartets,” that airs on ABC affiliate WJBF TV in Augusta Georgia continuously since 1953. The Parade of Quartets is the recipient of the Georgia Association of Broadcaster’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for over 6o years of broadcasting. The program has been designated as the longest continuous running gospel program in Georgia and possible in the United States.

Karlton L. Howard is married to Dianne Abrams Howard. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Shontay and two sons, Keith and Julius. They also have eleven grandchildren.
