The Veterans at the Library met at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, December 30, at 9 a.m. to travel by bus to the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 24 in attendance. Shari Watt provided pastries, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee before they pulled out at around 9:30 a.m. Veteran David Hill obtained the bus and drove us to Glennville. When they arrived, Director Ernie Cowart gave an overview of the cemetery and the qualifications of being buried there. Besides a veteran being buried there, a service person’s spouse can also be buried there. As they toured the entire cemetery, they noticed how perfect the graves and stone markers were laid out. Also, each grave had a ‘Wreaths Across America’ placed at it which meant there were nearly 3,000 wreaths. They then left the cemetery and traveled just outside of Glennville to the Farmhouse Restaurant for a great noon meal. After the meal, they took a short detour by the old Reidsville State Penitentiary which housed the Georgia’s old Electric Chair, and arrived back in Swainsboro around 3 p.m.
