Mrs. Madell Portwood Peavy, 72, of Swainsboro, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Emanuel Medical Center surrounded by her three daughters. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date.

Madell was born January 16, 1952, to the late Mack Portwood and Mary Dell Sowell Portwood. She was an intelligent, strong willed and kindhearted woman. Madell had a kindness and strength that her family can only aspire to have. She was a woman, who even when she had very little and struggling herself, would open her home and heart to others in need. Madell spent her entire career in healthcare. After retirement, she enjoyed spending her time with family. Mrs. Peavy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Allen Peavy; and sister, Wanda Childers.

Survivors include her daughters, Leigh Ann Everett (Richard), Jamie Elizabeth Peavy, both of Ballgound and Mary Radford (Charles) of Swainsboro; brothers, Dennis Portwood (Ann) of Milledgeville and Richard Portwood of Canoochee; sister, Madeline Portwood of Canoochee; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to: Pruitt Cares Foundation, 667 South Main Street, Swainsboro, Ga 30401.

Family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of PruittHealth Hospice and Palliative Care of Swainsboro, Emanuel Medical Center and Yolanda Canady for the care provided to Mrs. Peavy.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
