Street honored as a Don Cargill STEM Scholar at the Georgia State Capitol

On Monday, February 3, Amber Street, an esteemed educator at Swainsboro Elementary School, was honored at the Georgia State Capitol as a Don Cargill STEM Scholar by the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers, Inc. (GYSTC). Street received this prestigious recognition for outstanding integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruction. Recipients of this award demonstrate commitment to providing students with innovative and challenging STEM experiences. Street fosters a dynamic learning environment that not only inspires students but also prepares them for greater opportunities in STEM fields.

In addition to the recognition, Street was awarded $500 to support her classroom project. The awardees were invited to the Capitol for a reception with members of the Georgia General Assembly. The event was highlighted by a warm welcome from several distinguished officials, including Representative Chris Erwin (32nd District), Chairman of the Education Committee, and Senator Billy Hickman (4th District), Chairman of the Education and Youth Committee.

Kathleen Atkins (Chair, GYSTC Board of Directors, Lockheed Martin), Keith Crandall (Science Program Manager, Georgia Department of Education), and Amanda Buice (Executive Director, GYSTC) also recognized the honorees. Lt. Governor Burt Jones extended his congratulations, and the awardees were further acknowledged with a Resolution presented in the Senate Chambers by Senator Freddie Powell Sims (12th District).
