A celebration of life was held for Mrs. Mattie Deal Jones on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gilead M.B.C. in Canoochee with Reverend Jerry Armstrong officiating. Mrs. Jones transitioned from this world on February 7, 2025.

Mrs. Jones was born September 18, 1937 to the late Mr. Elmore Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Jenkins Jones in Emanuel County. She attended school in Emanuel County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Deacon John H. Jones Sr. They were married for 40 years. She was employed at Creston/Argo Mills for 28 years. She joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member. She performed several duties which included serving on the usher board, the church mission, deaconess board, and later became the mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five sons, Paul, Michael, John, Jr., Joseph and Earnest; and four brothers and two sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Jennifer Jones of Twin City; one stepdaughter, Roberta Jones of Midville; three sons, Vincent Earl Jones (Annie) of Swainsboro, James Edward Jones of Twin City, and Zimbaltist Craig Jones (Jennifer) of Statesboro; one brother, Pastor Johnny Ray Jones, Sr. (Bobbie Faye) of Twin City; eight grandsons; four granddaughters; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mosley’s Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
