The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Farmhouse Cafe in Adrian, Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 47 in attendance. The Farmhouse Cafe provided a breakfast buffet including eggs, grits, bacon, sausage patties, sausage links, ham, biscuits, fruit, jelly, water, orange juice and coffee. Chair Johnny talked to the group about the current activities and then he introduced Veteran Sandra Bailes who just announced that she was running for mayor of Adrian. Congratulations to Sandra on getting involved with community affairs. Chair Johnny then introduced the Emanuel County Administrator Guy Singletary to update them on the county’s efforts to clean up the county after Hurricane Helene¬. Guy talked to them about all that was being done to clean up the county by “FEMA”. FEMA has private contractors that have been working since Helene hit the county. So far, they have removed 1.6 million cubic yards of material from the right of way and are due to be finished by March 24. They estimate that they have about .4 million cubic yards of material left to remove. Chair Johnny mentioned that the Veterans Cup Golf Tournament is coming up on Saturday, May 17, at the Swainsboro County Club and more will be discussed about this 2nd Annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament. The Veterans will be meeting at Hawhammock Baptist Church, 27 Hawhammock Church Road, Swainsboro next Monday at 9 a.m. for their weekly breakfast.
