Durden Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Jewell Johnson Martin, 86, of Swainsboro, who passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Augusta. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mark Hardin officiating. Visitation was held Sunday, March 2, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers were David Berry, Penton Allen, Dr. Ben Timmerman, Doug Tice, Greg Johnson and Todd Willis.

Mrs. Martin was a 1957 graduate from ECI and was a cheerleader and loved basketball. She was also Miss ECI runner-up. Jewell was involved in a lot of school extra curriculars, to include one act play, band, Glee club, 4-H club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and fishing. Jewell loved being with her family and friends and loved being at home. Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her parents, Eustus Johnson and Leckie Muns Johnson; husband, Jack Martin; brother, Bernie Johnson; and sisters, Fronell Johnson Jones and Betty Lanie,

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Berry of Augusta; grandchildren; Tiffani Wambsgans (John) of Grovetown and Haley Bielewicz (Matt) of Martinez; great-grandchildren, Shawn Wambsgans, Will Wambsgans, Dalie Bielewicz and Penelope Bielewicz; sisters, Eusteen Timmerman Belding of Augusta and Dot Willis (Andy) of Twin City; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Durden Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
