Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet LTC Sha’Riya McClendon received the Sons of the American Revolution bronze medal JROTC award and certificate at their Swainsboro High School JROTC battalion classroom held on April 22. Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution member Dr. John Derden presented the award to Cadet McClendon. In addition to the bronze medal and ribbon, Cadet McClendon received a certificate from The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution which cited her “outstanding leadership qualities, military bearing and excellence, thus exemplifying the high ideals and principles which motivated and sustained our patriot ancestors. In addition, Cadet’s McClendon, Eskew, Ford, and Herrington, plus Sgt. Phillip Robinson, JROTC instructor, will receive the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association Commemorative Coin for participating in the 246th Anniversary Brier Creek Battlefield event held on March 8, 2025, and raising the Betsy Ross 13 STAR FLAG and the Don’t Tread on Me Flag, also known as the Gadsden Flag at the start of the ceremony. In addition, all unit cadets who participated in the Anniversary event at the Brier Creek Battlefield will receive a BCRWBA t-shirt.
