I remember walking through the woods as a child and my dad holding my hand. Why was that important to me? Well because of the thoughts going through my head about what could happen like a wild animal getting me, I was afraid. My dad has always been my security blanket. He was the one that I felt could handle anything or anybody.

My dad always wanted to know if we were ok. He wanted to know if someone or something bothered us during the day. Even if it was at school, he wanted to get to the truth of it. Just knowing that he was my protection made me feel safe. So ,when he held my hand my anxieties, worries and fears always went away.

Well, there came a day when I grew up. Things changed. I was on my own and my dad wasn’t around. But no matter what, I knew if I could get home, everything would be alright because he was there. When I went off to college, I always wanted to just come home to walk through the house. I was reassured of the security my dad always gave us. With fourteen children, he secured all of us. Now that’s funny because he only had two hands, but we all felt secure.

Today my dad’s gone, I have children yet many times I still feel like a child. I feel anxious, worried or afraid sometimes in this life. My dad’s hand is not here to hold me anymore. But I now realize why he was so brave and secure. While he held my hand he was holding someone else’s hand. He was holding God’s hand and he never let go.

So for my security and comfort, I hold the hand that is stronger than my dad’s. God’s hand will never get weak. God’s hand is always there. So I will encourage you in these turbulent times, to reach and grab the hand of God. His hand is outstretched to hold you, to save you, to comfort you, to guide, and protect you. Yes, hold to God’s unchanging hand. Some scripture references: Isaiah 41:10 & 13; I Peter 5:6, Heb. 13:6, Ps. 23:4.
