The Veterans at the Library held their 2nd Annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament on Satur-day, May 17, 2025. The event was outstanding, thanks to the veterans, local businesses, team participants, Swainsboro Country Club, Franklin Memorial Library, DAR, SAR, and many oth-ers. They had a full slate of teams with 21 three-person teams. Each team was given a bag of items such as event t-shirts and golf ball towels. Sausage biscuits, orange juice and coffee were provided for breakfast and grilled chicken, beans and cold drinks prepared by Veteran Albert Hall using his secret recipes was provided for lunch. When Commander Steve Burke ordered Compatriot Dess Smith III to fire the 6-pounder Field Gun cannon to start the Veterans Cup Golf Tournament at 8 a.m., the clouds did not part this year, and the rain held off for a beauti-ful day of golf. The 1st Place team was Chris Seabolt, Charlie Chappell and Mark Jor-dan. Besides the $624.00 for first place, $426.00 for second place, and $326.00 for third place, there were about 25 nice door prizes. Also, each golfer was given a bag of Vidalia Onions do-nated by G&R Farms in Glennville. There was also a cash prize of $10,000.00 on hole #3 that nobody won. Chair Johnny Tapley said that he could not wait until the 3rd Annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament, and it’s going to be bigger and better than this one.
