The 4th Annual Memorial Day Service was held Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Harmon Park. Before the service, an annual breakfast sponsored by the Emanuel Medical Center was held at the hospital cafeteria at 8 a.m. with over 51 veterans and Brier Creek Artillery members attend-ing. The Memorial Day, A Day of Remembrance, event started off with a welcome from Chair Johnny Tapley, then the invocation by Compatriot Emory Fennell and the Pledge to the Flag of the United States was led by Veteran Scotty Nasworthy. Then the Brier Creek Artillery (Wire-grass, Brier Creek, Little River Chapters) fired a 3-round volley (12 rounds) with their four cannons (four 6-pounders) followed by Veteran Scotty Nasworthy playing taps on his bugle. The Memorial Service was ended with closing remarks from Chair Johnny Tapley and the benediction by Dr. Rev. James Mason with approximately 150 attendees. The event was sponsored by the Veterans at the Library, SAR, DAR, VFW, The American Legion, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

A special thank you to Shari Watt, Emanuel Medical Center, Damion Scott, Swainsboro Fire Department (trucks) and Herman Middlebrooks.
