The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the social hall of Calvary Methodist Church Monday morning, June 30, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 53 in attendance. Calvary Methodist Church provided an outstanding breakfast of grits, cut up assortment of fruit, biscuits with an outstanding gravy and homemade jelly and muffins, orange juice, apple juice and coffee. Chair Johnny thanked Pastor Tom and his cooking crew for feeding them so well and that they appreciate them being so patriotic as a church. Johnny talked about upcoming events and about each one of them celebrating the “4th of July”, Independence Day this Friday. Veteran Sandra Bailes, who is the mayor of Adrian, announced that they were invited to ride the veterans float in Adrian’s parade this Friday. Adrian is celebrating the fourth with a parade at 3 p.m. with all kinds of events taking place before the fireworks at dark, and the public is invited to attend. Chair Johnny wanted to let everyone know to please honor those that served in the military and those that gave their ALL so that we might have the FREEDOMS that we have from the Revolutionary War through today. Also, this is a great opportunity to check your U.S. Flag out to make sure that you are flying it correctly – NO RIPES, NO FADING, A LIGHT ON IT AT NIGHT, and in recognition of exemplary patriotism in the display of the United States of America FLAG in the correct way for the “Fourth of July” this Friday.
