Joseph Brinson “Joe” Langley, Jr., age 78, of Kite, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Funeral service was held Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Interment followed at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, July 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were David Hutchinson, Ashley Colston, Blake Colston, Morgan Colston, Coty Colston and Ty Nix. Honorary pallbearer was Tommy Nix.

Born on July 28, 1946, in Lakeland, Florida, Joe was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. He earned an associate degree in business and enjoyed a successful career as a Nationwide insurance agent before retiring at the age of 48. In retirement, Joe spent his days doing what he loved most—being outdoors, hunting deer and turkey, and appreciating the beauty of God’s creation. He often said his favorite moments were spent quietly in a deer stand, listening to the sounds of nature and feeling close to the Lord. At the age of 53, Joe came to know the Lord, a turning point in his life that was evident to all who knew him. He grew in his faith, serving faithfully as a church leader, teacher, and deacon for many years. Joe’s walk with Christ became a guiding light in his life and a testimony to those around him.

Joe was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and actively participated in memorial services that honored veterans and their families throughout the region. Though he had a deep love for the outdoors and history, Joe’s greatest devotion was to his family. He always made time for those he loved and was a steady, joyful presence in their lives. Joe will be remembered for his warm spirit, his friendliness, and his ever-present, contagious smile. He had the gift of conversation and never met a stranger—connecting easily with everyone he encountered. Mr. Langley is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Brinson Langley and Laura Katherine Langley of Lakeland, Florida; and by his beloved stepdaughter, Jessica Ann Thompson of Kite.

Mr. Langley is survived by his loving wife, Janelle; son, Joey Langley of Lakeland, Florida; stepchildren, Sera Harris of Kite and Clint (Denise) Thompson of Swainsboro; brother, Ronald Langley of San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and countless friends who will deeply miss his presence.

Joe’s legacy of faith, kindness, and love will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched.

Chapman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
