The Four Rivers Patriots Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting Thursday night, June 17, at Chatters Restaurant in Lyons at 7 p.m. With President Joel Keener presiding, they had 18 in attendance. After the invocation, President Keener led the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. President Keener then called on Dess Smith III to introduce the speaker for the evening, Compatriot Steve Burke. Burke and his wife Renee, live in Garfield, and he is a President of the Wiregrass Chapter in Swainsboro. He talked about General Francis Merrion, the Swamp Fox of the Revolutionary War. Besides the Four Rivers Patriots members present, also in attendance were Steve Burkes wife Renee, Compatriot Dess Smith III, Compatriot John Derden, Compatriot Emory Fennell, Compatriot Bill Carmichael and Compatriot Lee Herron.
