The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the First Baptist Church Social Hall Monday morning, August 11, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 70 in attendance. The First Baptist Church fed the Veterans grits, biscuits with sausage gravy, sausage patties, muffins, with cut-up fruit consisting of watermelon, grapes, blue berries, orange slices, and orange juice, apple juice and coffee. 1Lt. Jay Sconyers, Veteran Julian Sconyers’ son, presented his program on the U.S. Air Force bands all over the world. Lt. Sconyers is stationed at the pentagon in Washington, D.C. Besides telling about the different kinds of bands and their locations in the world, he talked about their performances and how they helped recruiting when they performed. 1Lt. Sconyers just got back from a deployment in South West Asia and he presented the veterans with a U.S. Flag and certificate that read, “This is to Certify that this Flag of the United States of America was flown in a KC-135 Stratotanker in honor of the Veterans of Emanuel County, Georgia on a Combat Mission in Support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, April 8, 2025”. This U.S. Flag and Certificate is on display in the Franklin Memorial Library.
