On September 3, Emanuel County Family Connection hosted a breakfast and bingo party for the grandparents of the children in the Early Head Start program. “We wanted to honor those special people who do so much for their families”, said Tammy Allen, Family Connection Coordinator. “These men and women have raised their own children and give time and love to the little ones as well.” The group enjoyed a meal and fellowship together laughing and sharing grandparenting tips. They played bingo and everyone was a winner at the bingo game that was also an education board on the WIC nutrition program.
On September 9, Family Connection sponsored a free Farmers Market for the families with children in the Early Head Start program. The fresh produce was provided by Pete Jackson Farm. This was part of the WIC nutrition program that Family Connection is part of a grant cohort to encourage eligible families to use their fruit and vegetable vouchers. “Our goal is to provide access to fresh produce with these markets, and we also teach cooking classes with WIC approved foods to promote overall use of healthy food available through the WIC program.
