The Brier Creek Artillery, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, traveled to East Georgia State College on Thursday, September 11, to participate in the College’s Annual 9/11 Commemoration. The Ceremony began at 8:30 a.m. attended by close to 200 people, including the 1st Responders, Veterans, Brier Creek Artillery, Fire Trucks with U.S. Flag flying and school officials. When the siren sounded at 8:46 a.m., it signified the time when the Twin Towers were struck. Commander Steve Burke then gave the command for a 4-round volley by the Brier Creek Artillery’s four six-pounder cannons and then taps was played by Veteran Scotty Nasworthy on his bugle. The four artillery shots commemorated the two Towers, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania. The four cannons were fired by Steve Burke, Dess Smith III of the Wiregrass Chapter, Lee Herron of the Brier Creek Chapter and Alton O’Neal McCloud of the Little River Chapter.
