The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Library Monday morning, November 3, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 50 in attendance. Shari Watt provided a fantastic breakfast consisting of eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, pastries, orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Chair Johnny talked about the upcoming veterans’ programs at the TCE, ECI, SHS, SMS and SES that will happen November 8, 11 and 12. He also talked about the Veterans Park event to be held at Harmon Park November 12, at 11 a.m. It will be a short ceremony and firing of the Brier Creek Artillery and playing taps. The newest veteran is Julio Cesal Santiago, Jr. who served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1984. He was deployed to Grenada during that conflict in 1983. Santiago served with the 114th Infantry Division, Army National Guard, and his highest rank was Private.
