Mrs. Martha Ann Hammock Peebles, age 90, of Swainsboro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in her sleep. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 20, at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church of Swainsboro with Reverend David Unkles officiating. Family received friends one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers were Sam Daniels, Ed Daniels, Milton Gray, Mark Fountain, Stuart Bowen, John Flanders, Randy Tillman, Kim Youmans and Dr. Danny Moye. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Perkins, Lige Moore, Henry Terwilleger, Shirley Reid Women’s Group and the Seedling Garden Club.

Ann was born December 29, 1934, to the late Bennie Lee Hammock and Alice Foskey Hammock. She was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County. Ann began playing the piano for church at a young age and played throughout the years. She played for children’s Sunday school and Sunday night service at the First Methodist Church. Ann was in the first 12th grade class to graduate in Georgia and played on a winning basketball team in Adrian, 1950 – 1952. She only missed two days throughout her 12 years of school. Throughout Ann’s life, she was awarded as Swainsboro’s Hometown Hero and Beta Sigma Phi’s Woman of the Year.

Ann obtained her nursing license in 1955 and worked with Dr. Robert Moye and Dr. H.R. Frost for 28 years. After they retired, she went to work with home health. Ann worked with 1st Health Master, Compredence Home Health, Care South, University, Central GA Hospital in Macon and Rest Care, and retired December 15, 2020, after 64 total years in healthcare.

Ann was a member of Swainsboro First Methodist Church, where she worked with the children and played the piano. She served in several different ways, including trustee, choir, kitchen, Sunday School Superintendent for years, leader of the Shirley Reid Circle, Communion Steward. Ann also delivered items to the thrift shop weekly for years for the church. Her husband worked as a State Patrol and Ann cooked many meals for the troopers that worked with him. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many things for people. Mrs. Peebles is preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Tochie S. Hammock; husband, Ernie Peebles; son, Keith Peebles; sisters, Elaine H. Smith, Jackie Carlton and Sharon Whitehead.

Mrs. Peebles is survived by her daughter, Yonna Bailey (John Allen) of Swainsboro; grandson, Jay Bailey (Tiffany) of Hartwell; great-grandchildren, Tenley and Colton Bailey of Hartwell; and sister, Martha Flanders (Charles).

At the family’s request, donations may be made to First Methodist Church of Swainsboro in memory of Mrs. Martha Ann Peebles.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
