The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Library Monday morning, November 24, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 47 in attendance. Shari Watt provided sausage biscuits, grits, scrambled eggs, donuts, sweets, orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Veteran Orlando McKee talked about the VA benefits and what Veterans can do to receive them. Chair Johnny then introduced LaPortia Mosley who is the Community Engagement Officer for the Georgia Historical Society in Savannah. She talked about what the GHS does and how important it is to preserve photos and historical information about our families for future generations. Mosley is a ECI graduate of the Class of 2004. Veteran Dess Smith III passed out U.S. Flags and location information of the veterans to each Swainsboro City Cemetery Section Chair. Each Section Chair will place their U.S. Flags on the graves of each veteran buried in their sections by Saturday, November 29. Then on December 13, at 11 a.m., wreaths will be placed on every veteran’s grave in the City Cemetery after the annual WAA event, with the help of the citizens of Emanuel County.
