Jerry Ashley Way, 74, of Swainsboro passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 10, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Jack Whitehead officiating. Family received friends one hour prior to the service at Chapman Funeral Home. Interment followed at Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Glenn Fennell, Mark Fountain, Joey Hiers, Ben Way, Devin Snipes and Bobby Mason.

Jerry was born October 19, 1951, in Swainsboro, to the late Ernest Way and Stella McBride Way. He was a 1969 Swainsboro High School graduate. In 1974, Jerry graduated from Georgia Southern with a BS in education, and taught school for one year. He was a CDL training instructor at Southeast Tech in Vidalia for several years. After that, Jerry bought a semi-truck and went in business for himself hauling. He tried and was successful in several things: golden glove boxing, scuba diving and sky diving. Jerry was still trucking at the time of his death, but on top of the list was Jesus Christ. Mr. Way is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dianne Wilson.

Survivors include his brother, Tony Way (Patti) of Swainsboro; nieces, Joanne Cox and Becky Powell; nephews, Steven Wilson and Ben Way; several great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
