Dr. Elvira Green Jackson, age 71, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta surrounded by family and friends. Family received friends Thursday and Friday, February 12 and 13, at the Green Family Legacy Preservation, Inc. A celebration of life was held Saturday, February 14, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Ministering Evangelist Roosevelt Johnson, Sr. officiating and Rev. Michael Thomas, Pastor presiding.

Elvira was the twelfth of twelve children born October 21, 1954, in the Cross Green Community, to the late James Ellie and Pearlia Mae Simpkins Green. She graduated from Swainsboro High School with honors and continued her pursuit of higher education at Fort Valley State College (University) in Fort Valley where she graduated (Cum Laude) with a B. S. degree in Elementary Education (concentrations in Library Science and Sociology) in 1975. Elvira subsequently received her M. Ed. degree from Georgia Southern University and Ed. D. degree from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida.

Elvira poured her heart and soul into helping children reach their potential. For more than 30 years, she was a teacher, media specialist, and program coordinator for 21st Century Community Learning Centers in the Burke County School system. Elvira’s influence was affirmed by honors that included Educator of the Year and the Elementary Curriculum Director’s Award. Also, she was a member of the Burke County Library Board of Trustees.

Elvira joined Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church as a child, and she became a missionary for life. She was a force in establishing and operating the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP) and helped to establish Piney Grove’s Green Family Scholarship Fund. Helping the church fulfill its servant mission, Sister Jackson also coordinated events, including church trips; chaired the Finance and Food committees; sang in the choir, and was the general “go-to” for “all things Piney Grove.

Elvira aligned herself with other organizations that focused on community engagement. At the pinnacle was her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. Elvira was a charter member and subsequently, served as president of Nu Upsilon Omega Chapter. As a member of the international Ivy Historical Commission, she also created a “Bites of History” learning module (2025), and she served on the Editorial Advisory Committee for the sixth (2006), seventh (2010), eighth (2017), and ninth (2024) editions of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s official histories.

Family and friends proudly and fondly will forever treasure her essence: “Who she was and the difference she made”.

Dr. Jackson is survived by two devoted sons and their wives, William Peterson Jackson, Jr. (Andrea) and James Jones Jackson (Jessica); six grandchildren, Andreana, Willow, Audrey, Winter, Jayden and Jaya Jackson; six sisters, Carrie Green Fullard, Adele Green Harrison (David), Pearlia Green Rogers (Bruce), Elizabeth Green Harrison (George), Sarah Green Johnson (Roosevelt), and Dr. Earnestine Green McNealey (Ernest); three sisters-in-law, Doris Green, Agnes Williams and Dorothy Moore; three brothers-in-law, Walter, Leroy and Arthur Jackson; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jogresan Mortuary of Wadley was entrusted with arrangements.
