The Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated Georgia Day during their February meeting. DAR member Jane Durden delivered a very informative program on Georgia Day and its role in American history. She highlighted a variety of interesting historical facts and provided some little-known entertaining tidbits as well.
Georgia Day, observed on February 12 each year, commemorates the landing of the first colonists in Georgia under James Oglethorpe. The colonists landed on a bluff in Savannah and established the first settlement in 1733.
