The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, August 10, at 9 a.m. With Veteran Scotty Nasworthy presiding, they had 38 in attendance. Sheri Watt provided the outstanding breakfast consisting of sausage, scrambled eggs, and honey bun cake, orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice and coffee. Scotty introduced the Director of Herrington Homestead, Nita Hardaway, who talked to Veterans at the Library several weeks ago about their U.S. Flag and flagpole that were destroyed at the Homestead during Hurricane Helena. Scotty then presented her with a U.S. Flag to be installed on the new flagpole. Nita thanked the veterans for the contributions they made for the student’s plans to visit Disney World later in the year. If you would like to help with this trip, please send your donations to: Herrington Homestead, 8109 Hiway 297, Swainsboro, GA 30401. Scotty then talked about the upcoming 30 gun drawing each day during the month of September. There will be a winner drawn for each day and it’s possible to win more than once. Scotty also talked to the Veterans about the upcoming New Veterans Wall that is being constructed at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park by November 8. You can obtain a form at the library for your veteran’s information to be placed on the wall.
