Jim Sherrod, Vice Chairman of the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners from District 4 will

be hosting a Town Hall meeting on June 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Summertown

Community House. District 4 citizens are encouraged to attend, although no one will be turned

away as long as there is enough room to accommodate everyone. The purpose of the Town

‘);

Hall is to inform the citizens about their tax notices, tax bill and property taxes in general.

“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time now. I just feel like everyone needs to understand the responsibilities of the Board of Commissioners, the Board of Tax Assessors as well as the Tax Commissioner’s office. Understanding how all this works can be confusing and

when you don’t understand how it all works and flows, it can be overwhelming. I want folks to

know that they can appeal their property tax value and the process you have to go through. Having an open and honest Town Hall hopefully will give citizens a chance to become more informed

and hopefully will prevent or correct any misinformation or misunderstandings. Along with myself, County Administrator Guy Singletary, Chairman of the Board of TAX ASSESORS Mr. Daryl Gray, Sheriff Jeffrey Brewer, Emanuel County Clerk of Court Kristen Hall and maybe a few others, God willing we will have a productive Town Hall. We want this to be an open and informal opportunity for everyone to participate. The only ground rules are that citizens come with an open mind, a willingness to listen, and the courage to ask questions when the time comes. Please be prompt in attending because the worst thing is wasting time by rehashing something over and over, and please be respectful by not having side conversations while others are speaking. I’m not sure if there will be ten people or over a hundred attend, but if we can meet together and discuss questions without having accusations, I pray everyone will leave more informed and feel better about living in the best county in the State,” said Sherrod.
