Mrs. Alice “Jan” Smith Cook, age 71, of Swainsboro, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her residence. Funeral service was held Monday, August 4, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Curt Grimm officiating. Interment followed at Corinth Church Cemetery in Meeks. Family received friends Monday, August 4, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Rhett Dorsey, Adam Howard, Ryan Kersey, John Kersey, Hunter Whitaker and Jamie Tanner.

Jan was born January 17, 1954, in Adrian, to James Hoyle Smith and Elaine Hammock Smith. She worked for 22 years in childcare. Jan was known as “Nana Jan” to all her many children. She was a pageant lover and judge for many years. Jan loved shelling peas, cream corn, and making fig preserves, and was known for her red velvet cakes. Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Cook is survived by daughter, Tanisha Dorsey of Swainsboro; two grandchildren, Rhett Dorsey (Sierra Milligan) of Swainsboro and Sydney Dorsey (Adam Howard) of Statesboro; sister, Sue Morris (Al) of Savannah; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
