All Emanuel County students are invited to join the Black History Month Art and Poetry Celebration at Emanuel Arts Council. Students are invited to showcase their creativity and talent in a special Black History Month (BHM) art display and reception, sponsored by the EAC.

“On February 27, we will celebrate the contributions of Black artists, authors, and visionaries through art and poetry created and performed by our own talented students,” said Syvetta Young, EAC board member. “Students are encouraged to submit artwork or participate in a poetry recitation honoring the rich history and cultural legacy of Black Americans.”

Artwork should be submitted on 8.5 x 11 paper. All Emanuel County students are wel-come to participate. Artwork must be submitted to Franklin Memorial Library by February 7. The event is scheduled for February 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Kalmanson Gallery of the EAC, located in the Karrh Arts Center on North Green Street, Swainsboro. Students may also recite an original poem or a poem by a Black author at the event.

“This is your chance to express yourself creatively and contribute to a meaningful celebration of Black History Month,” said Mrs. Young. “Whether through vibrant artwork or heartfelt poetry, your contribution will help bring the community together in honoring this rich and significant culture. Let’s make this Black History Month celebration an inspiring and unfor-gettable event!”

Here are some creative art ideas to celebrate Black History Month:

• Portraits of Influential Figures

• Create portraits of historic and contemporary Black leaders, artists, scientists, or activists.

Freedom Quilts

• Design quilt squares inspired by the Underground Railroad

• Black Inventors or inventions

• Trace and decorate handprints with messages of equality, justice, and hope.

Word Art

• Use impactful words like “freedom,” “justice,” or “equality” and fill them with images or patterns

• Storyboard about a significant event or person in Black history

• Photo Collages showing moments in Black History

• Unity Hands
