Arthur Gibbons, Jr., 85, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024. A Homecoming Celebration was held Friday, September 27, at 11 a.m. at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Adams officiating and Rev. Bennie Brinson presiding.

Arthur was born August 25, 1939, in Emanuel County, to the late Arthur Gibbons, Sr. and Mary Etta Williams. As a young man, he apprenticed his father’s barbershop and ultimately became a master barber. In December 1958, Arthur married his high school sweetheart, Wylodine Phillips. Soon after, they decided to move to New York City to pursue their dreams and “make a mark”. Upon their arrival in Harlem, NY in the early 1960s, Arthur worked at Georgia Boy’s Barbershop before establishing Joe’s Barbershop in 1964. With a newfound interest in real estate, he studied and began a career as a licensed realtor. Mr. Gibbons is preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Anika Gibbons.

Mr. Gibbons is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wylodine Phillips; children, Chico Gibbons (Neiza Davis) and Robyn Gibbons; grandchildren, Matthew Gibbons (Danielle), Justin Sullivan, Phillip Ellison and Taylor Gibbons; two great-granddaughters; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
