Excitement filled the air as the Back-to-School Touch A Truck event in downtown Swainsboro kicked off on August 3. Kids of all ages were thrilled to meet the local safety officers as their vehicles were lit up and sirens blaring. Not only were our local police and fire represented, but Georgia State Patrol and East Georgia State College had cars in attendance. The city public works contractor, Clearwater Solutions, was also there with several pieces of heavy equipment. East Georgia Healthcare provided a medical unit and LRS Towing also came out with a tow truck sparking the interest of community children. The Swainsboro Kiwanis Club treated the kids with popcorn and cotton candy. Your Downtown Development Authority of Swainsboro provided free snow cone tickets to the Frosty Frog. Tickets were handed out by staff, board members, and community volunteers. Free drinks donated by Harvey’s Supermarket of Swainsboro and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Statesboro were enjoyed by all in attendance. It wouldn’t be a Back-to-School event without school supplies! The Franklin Memorial Library, with friends and Veterans of the Franklin Memorial Library, collected and distributed school supplies to our kids. Swainsboro Kiwanis Club and several other participants were set up that day passing out school supplies. Successful events like these are only possible through generous donations and sponsorships from various civic groups, local businesses, and community volunteers. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a child’s face light up from excitement! We hope all students and staff have a great school year.
