The Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association held a Memorial Day and Dedica-tion of the SAR Liberty Tree event at the Brier Creek Battlefield in Screven County Saturday, May 24. Besides several members of the Association in attendance and guests, the Georgia House of Representatives Speaker Jon Burns and Georgia Senator Max Burns attended the event. Also, Chapters of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution were present with their cannons. This included the Brier Creek Chapter, Wiregrass Chapter and the Little River Chapter. The event highlighted and dedicated the pavers that have been purchased around the U.S. Flagpole and also the Liberty Tree in front of the monument. Speaker Burns then presented President Stephen with resolution 541 passed earlier in the year by the Georgia House of Representatives honoring the legacy of the Battle of Brier Creek. Then Chair Lee Herron read a short document about the Liberty Tree presentation and Steve Burke and Don Bazemore unveiled the marker. The Brier Creek Artillery with their four 6-pounder Field Cannons fired a 3-round volley. Taps were then played by Compatriot Don Bazemore. The Brier Creek Artillery in attendance were Commander Steve Burke, Lee Herron, Dess Smith, Alton McCloud and Don Bazemore. If you would like to purchase a 4″ x 8″ paver or an 8″ x 16″ paver, call Sherry Christopher at 229.315.0906 or 478.299.8135.
