Following a public hearing last week, the candidacy of a local woman in the upcoming Swainsboro city election for mayor has been ruled as not compliant with the standards of qualification for that office. On September 2, 2025, the Election Board of Emanuel County voted that Shayna Boston did not meet the requirement of legal residency within the city of Swainsboro. Georgia Law provides a period of ten calendar days for appeal of the board’s decision. At press time, Elections Superintendent Kerry Curry responded to The Forest-Blade that no appeal had yet come forward.
