Charles Marion Mathis, 71, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025. Funeral services held Tuesday, July 29, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Louisville. Visitation followed after the service in the sanctuary.

Charles was born July 30, 1953, in Augusta, to the late Charlie Lamar Mathis and Joanne Marion Dunbar Mathis. He was a graduate of Glascock County School of Gibson, and furthered his education at Augusta College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1985, Charles married the love of his life, Libby, with whom he would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this coming September. The couple began their married life in Louisville. In 1988, they relocated to Eatonton where they made many cherished, lifelong friendships. Later, in 1992, they returned to Louisville and Charles resumed his work at Jefferson Energy as the Manager of Operation Services. Charles dedicated 30 years of service to the Rural Electrical program, retiring in 2021. Even after retirement, his passion for the industry continued, and he remained actively involved with the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo program through May 2025. Charles was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Louisville for many years where he ran sound for several years, cooked for brotherhood breakfast, served as a deacon and various other roles as needed.

Mr. Mathis is survived by his beloved wife, Libby Mathis; his devoted children, Rachel Ratchford (Mel) of Wadley, George Ratchford III (Lyndsey) of Cleveland, OH, Christopher Mathis (Taylor) of Jacksonville, FL and Derrick Mathis (Jordan) of Brooklet; grandchildren, Will Kirk (Ansley), Lexi Kirk, Ivy Grace Mathis, Charlie Mathis, Nolan Mathis, Finn Mathis, and Thea Ratchford, affectionately known as ‘Chaz’; siblings, Steve Mathis (Lynn) of Gibson, Susan Bonee (William) of Crossville, TN and Lynn Mathis of Byram, MS; along with many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: First Baptist

Church Louisville.

Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
