The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Library, Monday morning, March 3, at 9 a.m. Chairman Johnny Tapley presided with an overflow crowd of 54 in attendance. The UDC provided a great breakfast consisting of breakfast casserole, grits, sausage biscuits, muffins and fruit and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. A new veteran attended the breakfast. Veteran Rudolph Richards served in the Georgia Army National Guard as part of Company D, 878th Combat Engineer Battalion from April 1976 until April 1996. Richards was stationed at Swainsboro and Fort Stewart and was deployed to Saudi Arabia. His highest rank obtained was E-7. The meeting’s speaker was Swainsboro Police Chief Ashley Riner. Chief Riner updated everyone on all the things that he has brought to the police force and the different areas of enforcement that they are concentrating on in Swainsboro, including drugs, gangs, and creating a safer environment for citizens of Swainsboro.
