“The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting, December 14, 2023. With President Steve Burke presiding, there were 40 in attendance. After an outstanding covered dish supper, President Steve Burke led the group in the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. President Burke then had everyone introduce their guest. After the introductions, he called on Compatriot Bill Carmichael to come forward to receive his “Military Service Veterans Corps Certificate for serving in the Georgia Army National Guard and the U.S. Army. Burke then had East Fall Line Region Vice President Dess Smith III come up for a special presentation. Smith presented the Wiregrass Chapter with the President Generals Education Outreach Streamer and Certificate for the Chapters over and above education to children. Burke’s “Traveling Trunk” presentations at a lot of Revolutionary events and events like the Pine Tree Festival vendors area helped the Chapter in receiving this award from the National President General.

The last item at the December meeting was the Annual Wiregrass Presidents awarding of the “Fred D Womack, Distinguished Service Medal”. It was presented to the late Henry Wilder Smith, Jr. for his outstanding service to the Wiregrass Chapter, the Georgia Society and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution. His son, Compatriot Colby Isaac Smith, received the award for his dad. Judy Womack, wife of the late Fred D Womack. was present to present the award with Burke.
