The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting October 10, at McKinney’s Pond Restaurant in Midville at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, they had 19 in attendance, including guests. President Steve opened the meeting with a welcome and asked Chaplain Emory Fennell to open with a prayer and then lead the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. A great buffet meal of shrimp, corn dodgers, French fries and all the trimmings was then enjoyed by all. President Steve then called on Registrar Dess Smith for our special 41st U. S. Flag presentation. Dess presented the Flag Certificate to 2nd Vice President Gary Mason and his wife Teresa, in recognition of exemplary Patriotism in the display of the Flag of the United States of America in the correct way. Recognizing people, businesses, organizations and the government with a U.S. Flag Certificate is a project of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Wiregrass Chapter began presenting these certificates in June 2014, and this project is an ongoing project of the Wiregrass Chapter, the GASSAR, and the NSSAR and will be honoring others with this certificate. President Steve then asked Compatriot Dess to introduce our program for the evening. Dess introduced Compatriot Hu Daughtry of the Mill Creek Chapter, Statesboro. Hu lives with his wife Susan in Metter, and he is a retired Pharmacist. His presentation was on “The Ballard of Tom Dula/Dooley”. The next meeting will be November 14, 2024, at McKinney Pond Restaurant at 6:30 p.m.
