It is with heartfelt love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Deborah “Debi” Jo Mason, age 72, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at her home in St. Simons Island. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel, followed by the burial at the Swainsboro City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life in St. Simons Island will be at a later date.
Debi was born September 17, 1953, to the late Joseph Mason and Thelma Mason. She was a 1971 graduate of Jenkins High School in Savannah. Debi was an entrepreneur and had multiple successful ventures. She found her passion when she became a real estate agent/broker and settled in St. Simons Island over 30 years ago. Though she had no children of her own, she was a mother in every way that mattered to her nieces, nephews, family and friends who were blessed by her care, strength and generous heart.
Debi was a woman of quiet courage and steadfast faith. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, never hesitating to put the needs of others before her own. Whether it was through a helping hand, a warm meal, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement, she gave herself completely. Her sacrifices were countless, her love abundant, and her presence a source of comfort and strength to all who knew her.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Debi lived her life guided by grace and gratitude. She never wanted to miss her worship time on Sunday mornings at Lovely Lane Chapel in St. Simons Island. And if you were visiting her, she would always invite you to join. Her trust in God sustained her through every challenge and shone through her kindness, laughter, and unwavering spirit. She found joy in the simple beauties of life, an enjoyable conversation, a family gathering filled with laughter, and the breathtaking peace of the sunset shared with those she loved.
Those who knew Debi will remember her smile, one that could light up the room – the way she made everyone feel valued and loved. Her legacy is one of compassion, strength, and faith, and though her absence leaves a space no one else can fill, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all she touched. Miss Mason is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Faye Malone and Sandra Dorsey; and brother, Tracy Mason.
Miss Mason is survived by her sister, Marcelle Godwin of St. Simons Island; and brothers, Leonard Mason of St. Simons Island and Larry (Joseph) Durden of Swainsboro; special devoted friend, Chris Dotey; nieces (her children), Cassie Justen, Casie Hodges, Kala Mason, Mariah Rogers, Karleigh Mason, McKenzie Osebold and Addison Mason; nephews (her children), Bobby Godwin, Dereck Mason, Bryant Mason, Dillon Mason, Hunter Mason and Carson Mason; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and many friends she called her family.
Debi’s life was a testament to love in action. A reminder that family is not only defined by blood, but by the care and devotion we show to one another.
As the sun sets on her earthly journey, we take comfort in knowing she now rests in the eternal light of God’s love, at peace and rejoicing in Heaven.
