The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, November 5, at the Rustic Grille at 7 p.m. With President Paul Cerpovicz presiding, they had 16 in attendance, including four guests, Division 17 Lt. Governor Chris Wiggins, Jeanette LaFond, Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz and EGSC President Dr. David Schecter. Jeff Palmer won the red velvet cake donated by President Paul and Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz won the Dominos’ Pizza donated by Domino’s. The program for the evening was hosted by David Gribbin who introduced Dr. David Schecter, President of East Georgia State College. Dr. Schecter has been EGSC President for about three years. He thanked the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club for their financial support of EGSC, especially during this time of recovery from Hurricane Helene. Dr. Schecter is a Political Scientist, and he gave a short summary of what was been happening during this Election Day 2024. He explained about how the Electoral College works and why the candidates spend a lot of time in the “swing” states and very little time in “blue” states and “red” states, while looking for the magical 270 electoral votes. Dr. Schecter’s advice about the whole process was to go home and go to bed, get ready for both sides to declare “victory”, be ready for the process to take some time, be prepared for the results to go to court, don’t be confused by different ways of counting provisional ballots, and be sure to be careful about who “calls” the election. A very interesting and timely presentation.
